Gomel Oblast hosts school students for international peace event

MINSK, 27 December (BelTA) – Christmas Trees for Peace, the traditional New Year meetings between school students from different countries, are taking place from 22 to 28 December in Gomel Oblast. Held by the Gomel Oblast office of the Belarusian Peace Fund, the meetings will bring together over 350 children from Belarus, Latvia, and Russia, BelTA learned from head of the fund's Gomel Oblast office Timofei Glushakov.

In 2017, the international meetings will be held in Gomel, Chechersk, Kalinkovichi, and Rechitsa. Gomel Secondary School No. 27 played host to guests from the Bryansk Oblast Art Center and a St. Petersburg school on 23 December.

The program includes greetings from the organizers and guests, a New Year performance, and a masquerade ball. The students also receive New Year gifts from the Peace Fund.

According to Timofei Glushakov, such events mainly aim at expanding contacts for peace, exchanging experience, promoting cooperation between educational institutions, and strengthening friendship between young people from the CIS and non-CIS countries.
