COVID-19 cases in Belarus concentrated in Minsk, Vitebsk, Minsk Oblast
The largest number of people infected with COVID-19 has been registered in Minsk, Vitebsk, and Minsk Oblast, BelTA learned from Belarusian Healthcare Minister Vladimir Karanik on 9 April.
The official said: “The city of Minsk is where the largest number of infected people are. It is understandable that Minsk is a transport hub and boasts the highest population density. Minsk is followed by Vitebsk. People over there travel rather actively, too, including across the eastern border. A large number of holidaymakers returned from neighboring countries. The situation also deteriorated because the number of common respiratory virus infections peaked in Vitebsk at that time. Respectively the surge in coronavirus infection cases made it worse. This is why there is the largest number of pneumonia cases over there and we’ve repurposed the available hospitals in order to provide adequate medical aid.”
In his words, Minsk Oblast comes third. “There are up to 50 people under observation in Mogilev, Gomel, Grodno, and Brest,” the Belarusian healthcare minister noted.
