Gomel to host international conference on World War II
The military transport department of the Belarusian State University of Transport, based in Gomel, will host the international historical conference "World War II 1939-1945. View of Contemporaries" on 24-25 October, BelTA has learned.
The conference will focus on the 80th anniversary of the outbreak of the Second World War. The forum will bring together representatives of institutions of higher learning, vocational and general secondary education of Belarus and Russia, government bodies, the Gomel Eparchy, and Belarus transport troops.
The plenary meeting will analyze the modern assessments of the national historiography of the causes and essence of the Second World War.
The forum will feature four panels. The first one will be dedicated to the causes of World War II, the parties' agendas, and military and political outcomes. The second panel will focus on "Soviet-German front line 1941-1945 – the major front line of the Second World War". Another panel will discuss Belarus and its role during the war. The participants will talk over the development of military art, weapons, and military equipment during World War II.
The forum participants are set to visit history museums, exhibitions, and memorial sites of Gomel Oblast.
The conference is held every two years in the run-up to significant dates. The event is organized by the Belarusian State University of Transport with the assistance of Belarus' Education and Defense Ministries.
